Hendricka’s life changed at a very early age when she lost her father. Her mother, who lives with a mental health challenge, has been unable to provide for her family. As the eldest of three children, Hendricka stepped into a role far beyond her years—becoming both a primary caregiver to her mother and a parent figure to her younger siblings.
With no steady source of income, she relied solely on well-wishers to stay in school. Yet despite the heavy responsibilities at home, Hendricka remained deeply focused on her studies. Her determination paid off when she excelled academically and secured admission to a nationally recognized secondary school. However, there were no financial means to join the school of her choice.
Choosing responsibility over disappointment, Hendricka enrolled herself in a local day school so she could continue caring for her family while pursuing her education. At this critical moment, The Borne Community Network stepped in to support her schooling, restoring hope where it seemed lost.
